The present study was carried out to determine the seed germination and seedling growth of Myristica fatua var. magnifica. Standard methods were followed for moisture content determination, seed germination studies, and growth study. Freshly harvested fruits were used in this the experiments. The moisture contents in fruits, seed and arils were 81.6, 34.57 and 7.14% respectively. Seed germination was carried out by blotter method and germination initiated in the 2nd week (8th day) and the whole process was completed in 49 days for the batch of seed lot used. In total, 100% germination was recorded. The growth of shoots was faster in the beginning of germination which was slowed down in later periods. The vigour index was 392 to 445. The study focused on the conservation of Mystica fatua mainly by in situ method for its habit, where the regeneration status is low. Ex situ conservation needs swampy habitat with particular soil conditions.
